Did you got it right?

Knowing now that commercials try hard to make us buying all their products, that consumism is deeply in our minds that can change our emotions and that even controlling our emotions does not bring us happiness, what do you think NOW about consumism?
Excess of consumism is horrible for people. Maybe it is good for today's economy, but it is not good for people because it changes them and make them buy things even if their pocket can not handle it. Maybe those are extreme cases, but there are lots of people that suffer this problem and millions of people consume a lot, including you and me. But we can handle it. we all can defeat consumism. The onl hard thing we have to do is clear up our minds asking ourselves this question: "What do I really need?" and "What can be productive?"
The second question is about those things that we can really USE and that can teach us or be productive. One example is a book. A book can teach many things and is a really important cultural symbolism that should remain many years in our society because they have something to teach us. Another example (that can be accepted or not) might be music because it has lots of messages and is rich culturaly. And there are more things that are usefull and productive.
Consumism is not an illness that one person has or a problem you have some days and then it disappears. There are millions and millions of people that has deeply inside their minds this concept and they do not even notice about it. If you want to change and make other peopple to notice about consumism, spread the message. Do not let anyone to not know what consumism really is and what they are doing to themselves when they buy unnecesary products.
Fight the problem before it consumes you.

Consumism is not happiness

When you buy things (in the case of being useless or a waste of money to buy it), you usually feel happiness and joy because you got what you wanted. A month later, you do not feel this happiness for this product any more, so you decide to buy another thing you wanted to get. This process repeats and repeats every month. Why? Because it what we call consumism.
Lots of people think that for reaching happiness they have to buy it. They think that happiness is in their clothes, their perfumes, their furniture, their new houses, their new cars... They think that happiness is equal to money.
Money or consumism does not give you the happiness you think you are going to get. Some studies say that the excess of consumism can cause depress, alcoholism, crime, anxiety, obesity and suicide. But in my opinion this is all caused by the lack of happiness produced by the idea we have from consumism: With more money I can buy more things, and with more things I am happier.
You can find happiness in family, in friends, by helping others, by having a walk, by going to the beach, laughing about your mistakes, reading a book... Al these things are the ones that can make you happy or not, but the idea you have to get is that happiness is out there, inside you and inside other people and not in things you buy because they are attractive or because everyone has one.
And there is an important thing you must remember:
These days you can find a simple product almost everywhere and someday you will have to throw it .
These days is difficult to find happiness so if you have it do not throw it NEVER.

Consumism is in your mind

From the past till now, consumism has been being more important every year because people had more money and they could consume and have all they wanted, or at least the things they could reach. But this limits are very different because we have a limit in our pockets, but we have a different one in our minds.
All people react different: some people use the essential, others want more and more everyday. Consumism gets through our brains so deep that in lots of people the lack of shopping causes anxiety. This anxiety makes people to shop and shop without limits, but we already know we have limits in our pockets. But is not only that, because lots of people that have problems with consumism, when they have any problems in their lifes they think the only thing that is going to make them happier is shopping.
Consumism is a routine for lots of people, proffesionally and personally. Some professions have to buy lots of products and then they sell it at a higher price, so they can have a benefit. This is not abnormal, but this varies a lot when it comes to personal consumism. There are lots of people that hang out with their friends every weekend only for shopping clothes, games, furniture, exotic food, complements, tools, books, instruments...
Those people have no end and see shopping as a very common and necessary activity, the only thing that make them be satisfied with themselves or with the things that happen to them.
Finally my message is that wanting it or not, we have a really strong influence of consumism that is in our minds and it feeds of what we see everyday in shops, commercials, products our friends buy... We have to resist against this powerful nightmare and learn to have limits and when to say STOP.
And remember one thing. People with anxiety that consumes a lot in shops is because he is trying to find what he needs, and what he needs is support and a friend to stand with.
